A Simple Implementation Example
In the simple example to the right, WebSure provides web HTTP and HTTPS content filtering and proxy services to the client devices on the local network.
The client devices are configured to proxy their HTTP and HTTPS requests via the WebSure server.
By proxying the client data we have ensured that external parties do not discover any client IP address information for the internal network, whilst at the same time all clients configured to proxy via the WebSure content filter are subject to the organisations web filtering policy.
To increase security, we implement a firewall between the internet and the WebSure server and configure it to only accept HTTP and HTTPS request from the WebSure server. The firewall serves a dual purpose in that it:
a) Prevents external users accessing the local network from the internet. b) Ensures that all HTTP and HTTPS requests must pass through the WebSure server.
In Windows based infrastructures, the web browser in use is normally Internet Explorer and, as such, most customers utilise Group Policy objects to configure client browser settings.
Here we can see how simple WebSure is to setup. There are no additional server services required as, unlike many other web filtering solutions, WebSure utilises its own internal database system, cutting implementation costs and times.
