WebSure is licensed on a per client device basis. For this reason, you should purchase a license for every device that you intend to utilise the WebSure filtering server.
For example:
School A has 500 desktop computers (client devices).
- 490 of the computers are for student use.
- 10 are used only by teachers and administration staff.
The school internet policy states that all student browsing should be filtered, but not teachers and administration staff.
Therefore, the 490 student computers will be configured to proxy their HTTP and HTTPS request via the WebSure server, however, the teaching and administration staff desktops will be configured to send their data directly to the default gateway.
For the above example, we would require 490 WebSure Client Device licenses.
Note
In the scenario above, the 10 teaching and administration computers are configured NOT to proxy through the WebSure server. It is advised that any firewall located between the internet and the LAN be configured to only allow HTTP and HTTPS connections from the WebSure server, and the 10 teaching and administration desktop computers.
